Hand sculpted, then resin cast and painted sculpture. the piece stands 8.25” tall and is solid resin. finished with acrylic and bronze paints.

The piece is an interpretation of the original “Holy Isle Effigy” as described by the works of William Dalziel.

History:

The controversial Holy Isle Effigy is one of many artifacts Dalziel claims to have discovered during his excavations across the western isles of Scotland, spanning the mid to late nineteenth century. While considered a fringe figure by his contemporaries and modern scholars alike, the work of William Dalziel has found a surge of interest in recent years thanks to a group of dedicated supporters on social media.

Dalziel's central thesis posits the existence of an advanced group of people who inhabited the western isles of Scotland who he named "The Cadal" (Kah-tal after the Gaelic word for sleep) The artifacts discovered depict bizarre ritual practices which resemble modern era combat sports. Dalziel claims The Cadal, via a knowledge of human anatomy not realised by medical science until centuries later, would break bones and tear ligaments in order to boost spiritual conductivity of an apparently willing participant, culminating in asphyxiation.
